Dossier - 500 Days of Tory misrule

Microsoft Office Document Microsoft Word Document

Approaching the 500 day anniversary of Tory rule at West Berkshire Council, Opposition Leader Jeff Brooks has taken a look at the track record of the administration in a dossier entitled 'Delay, Drift and Incompetence'. Councillor Brooks explained: "Delay, Drift and Incompetence takes a look at the past 16 months of Tory rule in West Berkshire. As Leader of the Opposition it is my responsibility to scrutinise their policies and ask questions about how they are running your council. 500 days marks a significant point in any administration and it is certainly an anniversary on which we should ask 'what exactly have the Conservatives achieved in the last 500 days?" The dossier charts the months of glaring omissions and lamentable drift since May 2005, when the Conservatives came to power. Councillor Brooks continued: "Delay, Drift and Incompetence will give you an idea of what we in West Berkshire will have to contend with for the next four years, should the Tories get into power again come May 2007. I would urge all West Berks residents to read this as a matter of priority."

Liberal Democrat Alternative Budget 2006

A reduction in the tax rise to 2.45% is to be proposed by West Berkshire Liberal Democrats at the Council meeting on Thursday. The tax rise reduces the rise being proposed by the Conservative run Council from 2.9% and reverses many of the "mean" cuts being proposed. "I am delighted we have been able to put forward a value for money 2.45% budget which reverses the mean little cuts the Conservatives wanted to introduce. We will be inviting Conservative Councillors to join with us and accept our sensible proposals this Thursday," said Cllr Jeff Brooks.

The First 100 Days of the Conservatives - a dossier

Microsoft Office Document Microsoft Word Document
Uploaded at 6.18.01pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 29th Sep 2005

A dossier on the first 100 days of Conservative control of West Berkshire Council was launched last weekend at a summit of West Berkshire Liberal Democrats. Compiled by Councillor Jeff Brooks, Leader of the Opposition and Councillor for Thatcham West, and entitled "Delay, Cover-Up & Broken Promises," it lists the top ten failures of the new Conservative administration and by contrast highlights just some of the many successes achieved for local people through the Council by the Lib Dems. Councillor Jeff Brooks said: "Since winning power Conservative policies have provoked unease and dissatisfaction locally. They have come under fire from a range of local people from local traders to the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education. West Berkshire needs firm positive leadership that listens to local people; I am willing to give that Leadership. "Liberal Democrats are eager to consult and listen to local people. In the coming months we will be developing our manifesto for the 2007 elections and are open to ideas from everyone regardless of political persuasion. I want to hear from people who would like to be involved in our victory as well as all others who have ideas on how to further improve West Berkshire." Residents can contact Jeff Brooks to offer their views on how to improve West Berkshire by emailing jbrooks@westberks.gov.uk or writing to him at Jeff Brooks, Leader of the Opposition, Council Offices, Market Street, Newbury, RG14 5LD.
